New Year’s Eve is the perfect excuse to get fabulous.
Especially for Moms.
Whether you (miraculously) found a babysitter and are actually going out for the night, or staying in with your partner and a cold bottle of champagne, why not try one of the latest beauty & fashion trends while ringing in 2013?
Sure, you spend your days in really, really old yoga pants, and your idea of make-up is Chapstick and running your less-sticky hand through your hair a couple times.
But that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to shine!
With a little inspiration from Pinterest, some of my Mom blogger friends and I put these trends to the test, proving you, too, can make them work. So get on it!
Trend#1: GLITTERY LIPS
I’ll be staying in on New Year’s Eve, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make the glittery lips look work from my couch. Look out, honey: it’s time for a count down kiss!
Trend#2: CRIMPED HAIR
Alicia of NapsHappen hasn’t used a crimping iron in twenty years, but that’s no reason to shy away from the re-emergence of this wavy trend! Dust that bad boy off, break out the can of Aqua Net & go to town!
Trend #3: BUTTERFLY ACCESSORIES
Robyn of HollowTreeVentures has never shied away from her artistic side. It may not be butterfly season in her neck of the woods, but that didn’t stop her from crafting a solution to her headpiece needs.
Trend #4: THE WET LOOK
Nicole of NinjaMomBlog looks sultry for her celebratory evening in with her hunky husband. Once she gets those four kids tucked in, he’s in for a treat!
Trend #5: MULTI-COLORED MANICURE
ToulouseAndTonic has fingernails and her kids love to paint. What better than to let them give her THE manicure of the season?
Trend #6: OMBRE LIPS
Rebecca of FrugalistaBlog has proved her beauty and fashion sense many times over. Now her ability to pull off the ombre lip look proves you can do it, too.
Trend #7: BRAIDED CROWN
Paige Kellerman has a luscious head of hair, and the skills to create a glorious hirstute crown to wear while ringing in the New Year with her brood of babies who refuse to sleep.
Trend #8: FACIAL HAIR
Nothing is more on-trend than facial hair.
No one makes it sexier than Kelley of Kelley’s Break Room.
Trend #9: BOLD BROWS
If you have beautiful eyes like Kerry of HouseTalkN, a great way to draw attention to them is simple make-up with a bold brow. Don’t you agree?
Trend #10: PATTERNED PANTS
Great legs, like those of Jessica from FourPlusAnAngel, can rock patterned pants. No one will ever be able to tell they’re homemade. No one.
Trend #11: BLACK & WHITE STRIPES
Andrea of Underachiever’s Guide to Being a Domestic Goddess makes the right call: this classic color combo begs to be paired with dancing shoes!
Trend #12: FEATHERS
Keesha of Mom’sNewStage‘s face is stunningly framed
in flirty feathers for her big night out!
Trend #13: CAT EYES & GAP TEETH
Anna of MyLifeAndKids is dedicated to looking gorgeous. She used liquid liner to draw on her cat’s eyes, and a pair of pliers to yank out her two front teeth for the trend-setting gap-toothed look. Anyone with a pair (and a strong grip) can do it!
Trend #14: SALLY DOLL
Taking inspiration from her kids’ toy collection, Meredith of MomOfTheYear masters the most youthful look of all: re-creating a Sally Doll on her own face.
It’s like she’s a kid again!
See?
If us busy moms can make our
New Year’s Eve fashionable and fun, so can you.
Happy 2013!

these moms totally rock the latest styles. not sure if i want to try the ombre lipstick or the feathers first, so many awesome looks! happy new year!

The ombre seems the easiest, though the feathers are pretty fancy for a night out. God luck!
Since I ascribe to the old adage that MORE IS MORE, I think I’ll try them all on New Year’s Eve. Even though I’m staying home. It’ll take me so long to get ready, I’ll have to take off my butterfly net and go to bed immediately after the final touch. Cheers and Happy New Year!

This makes sense to me – why NOT layer all the looks at once? Brilliant!
So much to chose from. I think I may rock the braids, right after I cover my face in glitter. I enjoy subtle, reserved fashion.
You could also tie in the facial hair look by wrapping one braid around your head, beneath your nose…
Holy crap, seriously??? Gap teeth are a trend? Do you have to have the cat eyes? Cause I can draw those on and be so trendy it hurts!
Gap teeth are SO IN right now. Smile big, lady!
I am gonna rock these all at the same time… Because that’s just how I roll.
Hugs!

You are gonna look so sexy when the new year rolls in.
You are some fabulous beyatches! Making the New Year sparkle and shine in a only a slightly terrifying way. Such a great laugh.

We are nothing if not trend setters.
HILARIOUS! The wet look photo of Nikki? Killed me. And Kim, that glitter? You are a hoot. All of you are. SO damn funny! Love it!
There’s nothing sexier than a lady in a satin robe dripping wet, don’tcha think? Unless you add glitter, too. BOOM.
I’m going to post the outtakes, Iris da Beard. Kimmy, wanna slap your name on them? The “before,” too? I feel a DIY drunk n’ slutty primer coming on.
This cracked me up! Laughed out loud all throughout it. Nicole on the toilet was too much. Loved it!
She knows how to make a beauty trend tangible for those of us not on the runways. It’s a gift.
Be grateful my time was limited, friend. I had planned to go way over the top.
Because a silky robe while made up like the Joker & soaking wet on a toilet could NEVER be considered “over the top”.
Perfect! Off to rock this New Year’s Eve! Do you think the glitter lips and brows will work for a wedding in a couple weeks too? I don’t want to upstage the bride…

As long as you don’t wear white, I think you’ll be fine.
That is lough-out-loud hysterical! Sorry I didn’t join on the fun! Maybe next year!

You would look SO HOT in the golden eyebrows. Really, get on this.
What an amazing group of sexies!!! I love that you all can dress up and look so ‘glamorous’. This blog is a big old ball of awesome sauce!!

Glamour is our bag, baby!
These are amazing. Is it weird that I have the supplies to recreate most of these looks on hand right now? Including the crimper?
I worried I wouldn’t have the glitter on hand, then I remembered: I have a daughter. OF COURSE there is glitter in my home.
Best Post Ever.
Why, thank you!
Somebody send me some glittah! I’m gonna glitter my face like it’s 1999!
Love this post-ladies you are too cool for words!

If by “cool” you mean “so on trend and sexy”? I think you’re onto something.
Yeah, that’s totally what I meant. Next year I want to get in on it!

OHMYGOD we’re all so gorgeous. My husband walked in on me secretly taking pictures of myself with paper butterflies all over my head, and he laughed so hard he had to sit down, which is exactly the kind of glamour I’d hoped to achieve. Kudos to you for pulling this together and inspiring everyone to style it up this year!

It is a bit understated, though. Maybe I’ll just do it for playdates.
Yes! Glitter and feathers everywhere! My husband and friends are going to get quite the surprise from my new fashion statements. Thanks for the tip.

The “wet look” slayed me. With that and all the glitter and netting and butterflies and bright colors it’s like the practical jokesters of the fashion industry are trying to turn us into psychedelic mermaids. You guys are awesome! Happy New Year! (I’ll be rocking the “asleep” look this NYE…)
Kim @ Mama Mzungu recently posted..I am a Kenyan grandmother. Kind of.
My friend Nikki had me in stitches with all the out-takes she did of that wet look photo shoot. OMG, awesome.
I also rocked the Asleep Look on NYE! What a coincidence!
Now I understand #spikedpunch late to the party.
Yep, we like to dress up and Twitter Party like it’s 2013.
HAWT. All you ladies are HAWT. I may try to impress (scare?) my husband with glitter lips.
Wait – New Year’s Eve was yesterday, you say?
Oh, I’m so unhip.
JD @ Honest Mom recently posted..My 2-word New Year’s Resolution may sound simplistic. But it’s not.
Glitter lips are sooooo sexy. It’s just hard to breathe with them on. No biggie.
